Vale Scott "Arthur" Johnson

It is with a heavy heart that I inform all Hills Barbarians past and present on the passing of a club Legend Scott Johnson.

Scott was an original Barbarian in the inaugural season of 1976-1977 and played continuously until 2009-2010 when he hung up the kit for the last time. Scotty J ended his cricket in 2010 as the longest serving Barbarian with 34 seasons, highest run scorer, No5 on the all-time catchers and the proud owner of 11 unfortunate cricketers to get out to his left arm nudes!! Scott was also a member of the inaugural A Grade Premiership in 1982-83 season.

Scott did not just contribute on the field but off the field he was a stalwart who managed to take on many significant roles.

1977-1980 Publicity Officer

1978-1984 PDCA Delegate

1985-1990 Club Secretary

1990-1993 Club President

In 1993-94 Life Member No3

Scotty J had a profound impact on myself in many ways over the seasons. He was the person responsible through a mutual family friend Ian Collier to get me to play 16/3's for my first season of cricket, he brought a group of young men through the grades in my fourth senior season into B3 where we won the unwinnable semi and final. These players would go on to be the clubs main A grade cricketers for the next 18 years. He offered me great advice when I became president that I still follow today that now sees us as one of the biggest Junior Cricket Clubs in the PDCA and he was always on the phone for support as a Solicitor and Legal counsel for the Barbarians.

In the last few seasons Scott has been a regular visitor to see A Grade play and was regularly offering advice and support to the team from an astute student of the game.

Scott will be remembered in folklore for his amazing performance on stage at the Sporting Club after the Grand Finals and birth of his first daughter, for his astute negotiations with Steve Waugh who wanted a motza to guest speak at senior presentation. Scotty banked on him getting dropped in 1992 from the Australian Team halving his asking price!! Jack Rudd became infamous when he questioned him if he had an issue outside off stump... Scotty to the rescue again.

I'm going to miss you greatly and I know that you Bakes and Jack are sitting chewing the fat and talking all things Babaas!

Please see the Facebook Post from Holly Tompson nee "Johnson" this week 14.08.24.

Yesterday we lost a remarkable father, loving husband, beloved brother, cherished Papa and genuine friend.

Whilst surrounded by loved ones, Scott sadly lost his short battle with cancer and is now at peace, pain free.

The loss we feel is immense, and he will remain in our hearts forever.

We will be holding a funeral service at the Garden Chapel, Castlebrook Memorial Park Rouse Hill on Tuesday the 20th of August at 11am. A wake will be held to commemorate his life following the service, at the Hills Club Baulkham Hills. All are welcome.

In honour of his beloved Sharkies, we kindly request guests wear black, blue and white.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cancer Council  https://inmemory.cancercouncil.com.au/fundraisers/hollytompson/in-memory-of-scott-johnson

Thank you to everyone who has reached out during this difficult time. Please know your kind words and support are greatly appreciated.
