It is with deep sadness that I have to inform the Hills Barbarians Cricket Community of the passing of PJ late Thursday evening 4th June. Unfortunately, PJ lost a short battle with cancer that has left us all a little stunned.
PJ was a Barbarians through and through and rightfully was the 7th Life Member of the Cricket Club and in my mind more than a Club Legend.
Pete, Jules, James, Thomas and Brianna were entrenched in the club with all the kids helping out or being involved in playing right through their junior cricketing years.
I had the pleasure of coaching with Pete for 2 seasons as James was finishing up cricket, we steered a great bunch of boys to the clubs first 16/1 Premiership in a lot of years. Both of us could not have been prouder of the boys and many of these boys are still our mates 16 years on.
You could not mention anything about A Grade or junior cricketers moving through the ranks without PJ having an insight or knowledge of what was happening within the club. Peter was a successful member of the clubs first A Grade side in 1982-83 season, something he was more than proud of.
My thoughts are with the family at this sad time and my Sundays after cricket will not be the same without a call from Pete asking how we went or who this or that player that got a few runs or wickets. Even after finishing playing Pete had to know it all and enjoyed chewing the fat!
I am going to miss you more than most and not having you for the odd visit to A Grade on a Saturday afternoon will now feel a little emptier. You bled Green and White and you will not be forgotten.
Enjoy a red wind or a beer with Bakes, Scotty, Jack and I hope there are some fast bowlers to entertain you!
RIP
